Ali Boumnijel (born April 13, 1966 in Menzel Sealih) (Arabic: علي بومنيجل) is a retired Tunisian football goalkeeper.

The Tunisian international began his career in FC Gueugnon in France, however without playing any games. His first game as a professional footballer came on October 20, 1991 for AS Nancy in a 1:3 loss to AJ Auxerre. Afterwards he returned to his previous team, where he played five seasons, until changing to SC Bastia. He played for Bastia for six years, and then one season at FC Rouen. In 2004 he has problems finding a high-level club in France, much due to his high age. He therefore moved to Tunisia to play for Club Africain.

In the national team he debuted on November 27, 1991 against Côte d'Ivoire, but he had to wait five years for his next international match. Having established himself as a competitive goalkeeper in time for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, Tunisia's coach at that time Henryk Kasperczak still used Chokri El Ouaer. Ouaer remained the first choice for many years, until he, shortly before the 2002 FIFA World Cup, gave in due to back problems. Since then Boumnijel has been Tunisia's first choice goalkeeper, playing at the 2004 African Nations Cup.

Aged 40, he was the oldest player at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Boumnijel has been praised for his great leadership and goalkeeping skills during the World Cup.

Biographie d'Ali Boumnijel
Ali Boumnijel a su être patient pour s'imposer dans les buts de la sélection tunisienne. L'ancien pensionnaire de Ligue 1 a passé plus de dix ans à cirer le banc derrière l'indéboulonnable Chokri El Ouaer avant de passer au premier plan.

Sélectionné pour la première fois en 1991 alors qu'il découvre l'élite en France sous les couleurs de Nancy, Boumnijel attend cinq ans avant de célébrer sa deuxième cape.

L'honneur d'une place de titulaire avec les Aigles de Carthage lui échoie enfin à la Coupe du Monde 2002 alors que son rival vient de se retirer. Il joue les trois matchs de poule mais ne peut empêcher l'élimination de son pays au premier tour.

Après un passage de cinq ans et demi à Gueugnon, Boumnijel a rallié la Corse et le Sporting Club de Bastia, équipe avec laquelle il vient de perdre la finale de la Coupe de France face à Lorient (0-1). C'est son plus haut fait d'armes en club avec la montée en première division avec Lorient en 1995.

Pourtant descendu d'une division en 2003 lorsqu'il rejoint Rouen, Boumnijel est néanmoins le gardien choisi par le sélectionneur Roger Lemerre pour garder les cages tunisiennes lors de la CAN 2004 disputé au pays.

Gardien sérieux et régulier, Boumnijel apporte son expérience à un groupe qui fait chavirer de bonheur le pays en remportant la compétition. Le seul titre de sa carrière.

Evoluant désormais au pays sous les couleurs du Club Africain après avoir évolué toute sa carrière en France, la Coupe du Monde 2006 devrait être sa dernière grande compétition, quelques mois après avoir disputé une autre Coupe d'Afrique des Nations.

Il sera ensuite temps d'évoquer une retraite bien méritée, même si Boumnijel lui-même n'en a jamais parlé.
